Best wishes, solidarity and peace for 2008

The year 2007 was another extremely busy year for OPSEU. We faced many challenges and continued to grow as a union.

Among our many accomplishments this year, one stands out. The incredible dedication and sacrifice of more than a thousand OPSEU members who walked the picket lines for days, even weeks, to improve their working conditions and the lives of the people they serve and support, is worthy of special mention.

Again in 2008, this great union will have to be ready to stand up for public services and the interests of our members. It's what we do best.

As always, OPSEU will be bargaining. We will be looking for improved new contracts for large groups -- including our members in the Canadian Blood Services, Colleges Support Division, and in the Ontario Public Service. We will also be bargaining this year to better the working conditions of thousands of other members in many of our 500 smaller bargaining units across the province.

As well, moving into 2008, we have the largest organizing campaign in the history of Ontario underway. The task of organizing thousands of part-time and sessional workers in 24 colleges is a huge one, but OPSEU will meet the challenge.

We will move forward, together, as OPSEU members always do, to meet these and other challenges.

Meantime, this time of year gives many of us a welcome opportunity to spend time with family and friends and celebrate the season.

On behalf of the Executive Board and staff of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, we extend to everyone a happy holiday season and all the best for the New Year.

In solidarity,

Warren (Smokey) Thomas, President
Patty Rout, First Vice-President/Treasurer
