OPSEU Reaches Out to Information Knowledge Workers

September 24, 2008

OPSEU is at TorontoTechWeek to present our union as the union of choice for Information Knowledge Workers (IKW).  The Information Knowledge sector is one of the fastest growing labour markets in Ontario, and its importance in the economy cannot be overstated.

Non-unionized workers in this growing sector are excluded from certain key provisions of the Employment Standards Act (ESA). Issues affecting IKWs should be given a greater spotlight within the union, in collective bargaining and in organizing new workers and bargaining units.

OPSEU currently represents thousands of workers in this sector. They work in Information Technology and Information Management; they develop and maintain computer software systems, work on databases and networks, query data warehouses and analyse information.
